Reviews
I am a 66 year-young unicyclist. As I've aged, I've downsized my rides to boost my workout intensity and restore my confidence in tackling all types of terrain. During our drier months I prefer riding trails on my 26" Nimbus Oracle unicycle, which is usually equipped with a 26 x 2.35" Schwalbe Hans Dampf (an excellent "Muni" tire). However, when our local trails are snow-packed and/or sloppy, I ride my neighborhood roads and bike paths to keep in shape. In the past, I had been doing these road rides on a 29" Nimbus Oracle unicycle equipped with a Continental Contact Cruiser (28 x 2.2"). I liked the performance of that tire on roads, but my 29-er is now a bit much for me on the hills in my 'hood. So, I starting looking for a 26" road tire with a similar profile and tread design, and stumbled on this Schwalbe Pick-Up 26 x 2.35" Cargo & E-Bike tire. After more than 30 miles riding on this tire I'm happy to report that it is everything I hoped for and more. The "fast rolling center line" tread provides minimal rolling resistance and easy pedaling. The shoulder siping provides plenty of grip in turns. Most importantly, the tire's profile & tread design provide almost zero "auto-steering" (up towards the crown of the road), which can be a real pain while road unicycling. Lastly, while I don't ride roads at night, the reflective stripe is there for those who do. I can't yet speak to the long-term durability of this tire, but it seems to have just the right amount of "beef" and puncture protection for confident road unicycling (thanks to this tire being designed for cargo & e-bikes). In summary, I am one happy, one-wheeled customer. Thanks to Schwalbe for making this EXCELLENT road unicycling tire, and to BTD to making it available to all of us at a fair price, even if YOU need TWO. ;-)
Needed tires that would be durable and survive abuse from service on a cargo bike. The last tires I had on my Surly Big Dummy were a set of brand new Schwalbe Fat Franks (I was cheap), and they didnt last 1000 miles. These tries look like theyll last at least three times as long, if not much longer.
Only drawback was that the wire bead made installation difficult. I pinched several tubes between the tire and the rim and/or the tire levers before I was finally able to successfully install the tires with the tube intact.
perfect tires for an ebike and I get groceries with these tires without any issues. The tread on the rear tire after nearly 500~ miles doesn't even seem worn and no punctures. I ride through broken glass sometimes(car accidents rarely get cleaned up in a timely manner in my area) and in grass without any issues.
The only problem is the variety of different measurements, I couldn't order the correct size tires. Now I have to order the correct size because .2 inches made my bike nearly 3mph slower(this is due to the controller on the bike not the capabilities of the tires).
I swapped out a pair of Fat Frank's (which I think were chosen by the bicycle manufacturer solely for fashion/looks) on my e-bike because they had really poor traction. These Pick-Up cargo tires solved that problem completely! They perform very well with a heavy load of groceries in the panniers and give me good stability on all of my urban streets rides. I would heartily recommend them for anyone with similar problems.
The only thing I could wish for is more color choices.
