Description
Ride without limits with high volume, kick-ass adventure tires
When you're out on a ride the last thing you want is to be held back by your tires in any way.
Surly's ExtraTerrestrial Tires were designed to let you ride without limits by simply following the only tenets the brands has for tire design: they're high volume and they kick ass.
The ExtraTerrestrial tire was meant to serve as a heavy-duty off-road touring tire that shines on hardpack surfaces. It uses a nylon breaker in the sidewalls for cut protection, a molded pattern for anti-cut propagation, and a Kevlar cap under the tread to protect against flats.
The ET Tire uses a distinctly directional tread pattern and its width yields more traction than you might expect from a tire with such little rolling resistance. The tread is low profile with a file tread in between tread blocks.
The ExtraTerrestrial tire has enough width and traction for the soft stuff and won't bog you down on smooth or hard surfaces.
The finishing touch is a slate sidewall that brings an understated element of flair to any frame or kit.

Reviews
I'm a commuter biker (~100 miles a week ) in almost-rural michigan so the roads are poorly maintained crushed asphalt and absolutely rife with gravel and dirt and sticks. These tires work super well going uphill and downhill, in rain and shine. Sidewalks and city streets are absolutely no problem either. I'm not a big trail rider but they've held up okay the few times I've taken my bike on dirt as well. Truly terrestrial.
I have these on two very different bikes. I keep a 29" wheelset with these so I can ride my full suspension MTB on the road to get to the trail, and I also have the 27.5" 's on my Surly Bridge Club, so that I can ride my grocery getter on singletrack. The off road traction on this tire is outstanding. Rolls faster on pavement/gravel than a knobbed mtb would.
This tire, is a great substitute for road use when your favorite trails are rained out or snow covered. Tubeless rules the day with these tires, not disappointed at all. Buy with confidence these are a good purchase.
