Description

Built For Trail Wizardry

The Surly Dirt Wizard 29 x 3.0 Inch MTB Tire is an excellent choice for backcountry bikepackers or MTB riders who just love plowing through rock gardens. Although the Dirt Wizard is not the fastest tool in the bicycle shed, it sure is one of the toughest. With its nylon anti-cut sidewall insert, aggressive tread, and a new Surly rubber compound design, the Dirt Wizard outshines its competitors in terms of durability and grip on the trail. Loose, techy descents? No problem. Steep rooty climbs? Not so bad after all. Rocks and sand? Roll right through.

The Dirt Wizard's tread is composed of a dual row of aggressive, trail-gobbling knobs in the center and well-spaced, siped knobs to dig into loose corners. Designed to work on 50mm rims, Dirt Wizards are tall and wide, providing next-level cushioning. The 60 TPI casings are flexible and responsive, yet durable and supportive. The minimum rim size for these little warlocks is a 35mm outer rim width.

These tires also come tubeless ready — a necessity these days for running lower pressures without getting pinch flats. The lower pressures combined with the aggressive tread make these tires magic on singletrack.

Features

  • Tubeless ready
  • 60 TPI tire casing
  • Aggressive center tread with siped cornering knobs
  • Perfect for long days of singletrack
  • Nylon anti-cut sidewall insert with exceptional puncture protection

To date this is the best tire I've used

II have a 2023 Pivot Shuttle and a 2022 Specialized Turbo Levo and ride aggressively on all types of terrain. I've used the Spec Butcher front 29 x 2.6, the Maxxis Assegai 29 x 2.6, Maxxis Minion DHF 29 x 2.5 and although all those tires are good, the 29 x 3.0 Dirt Wizard ends up being the best for me. Having 2 bikes, you get to switch daily from one to the other and even switch front wheels from bike to bike giving you a day to day comparison and I've even taken both bike to ride the same trail on a given day for more scientific comparisons. The Dirt wizard just gives you more confidence where you need it. Slippery off cambers, there is more tire to bite the terrain. Soft sand, this tire glides through it. Slippery wet rocks and tree roots are no problem, and its tough as well. I'd highly recommend it. Maybe a bit Pricey but worth it in my opinion, as they last well too.
