Description
Your Shimano Road Pedal Refresh is Just a Click Away
Shimano SPD-SL road pedals and cleats are the standard among professional and amateur cyclists looking for a stable platform, simple functionality, and long-lasting performance. The wide, low-profile cleats distribute force evenly and allow for stable walkability off the bike without needing to carry special cleat covers for your mid-ride coffee stop.
There are three different models of Shimano SPD-SL cleats to choose from that are designated by three colors: yellow, red, and blue. Each of the cleats offers unique features, including different float ranges and pivot points, and are designed with specific rider biomechanics in mind.
Float Factor:
Float refers to the back-and-forth movement of the foot while you are clipped in and is essentially how much you can point your toes left or right while your shoe is attached to your pedal. Different levels of float help accommodate different riding styles or help with biomechanical issues such as lack-of-flexibility, past injuries, or knee pain. While float can help reduce stress on joints and make for a more comfortable pedaling movement, it can also result in a feeling of diminished power transfer if your foot moves around too much.

Reviews
It is shocking how many (cheaper) counterfeit shimano cleats are being sold. The counterfeits wont last and can be dangerous even tho they may look ok. Check online, there are ways to spot phonies.
These are authentic just what youd expect from BTD. Consider the source!
I have tried the copies of the genuine Shimano cleats sold on some websites and have found they don't clip in or out smoothly and the money saved is not worth the poor performance. The genuine Shimano cleats always work as intended and the new packaging is both eco-friendly and easier to open.
I've used Shimano cleats since my first pair of specialty shoes. The colored plastic parts tend to wear out sooner than I'd like but that's neither here nor there. The reason I'm writing a review, though, is that Shimano is no longer using those nasty plastic clam packages. My purchase came in a recyclable paper box. It won't change the world or solve the world's problem with plastics, but it's a move in the right direction. Good on Shimano.
My standard cleat. Good durability usually get 10k miles out of them... and I clip out a lot which wears out the bottom (hangs head in shame for not being able to do a proper track stand).
Chose blue cleats after many years of riding the stock yellow ones. Quicker and more confident click in out. Don't really notice the difference in flat, I guess my pedaling style is pretty consistent. These OEM Shimano cleats last forever, unless you walk all over the place on pavement with them on, which is foolish.
Just switched to Shimano Ultegra pedals after a few years on Look Keo pedals (which I stopped used because the metal plate had lost adhesion to the pedal body). I like the near-zero float of these cleats - feels secure. But the wear on the cleats from walking was much faster than what I experienced with the Look cleats. On both shoes, the outside cushion was gone in a week of riding, and further wear on the plastic under the cushion has resulted in a tilted walking surface and less grip. I know, who walks on road cleats? But it's different. Still, the grip to the pedal is good.
You do not slip when walking! The cleats are easy in and out. But the best, when you stop and put your foot on the ground you do not slip. The yellow contact points, keep your foot from slipping.
Decided not to take away a star because one set of the cleats had a bad screw. That screw did cause me to have to get a threading tool and chase the threads in one of my shoes, very scary. Don't buy these till they go on sale, the price has doubled on them in the last couple of years. I also tried the cheap chinese knockoffs, they worked ok but they only last a few weeks and the colored knobs on the cleats fall off after a few days...
