Reviews
These shoes are clearly made well. High quality materials and construction. They are very comfortable and offer great performance - stiff with efficient power transfer. Im using them for both MTB and Gravel. They are stiff enough that I would not want to do a lot of walking in them. They run a little big in my experience. I wear a size 9 and have a wide foot. I ordered a 42W and they are a little on the big side. I added a upgraded footbed which took up some extra space. If I had to do it over I wish I could have tried on a 41W and a 42R. I may have ended up with what I have but I wonder. If you are not sure you might want to order 2 and send a pair back.
After hearing a lot about how narrow the "regular" RX801 is, I decided to try the Wide. That was a good call and it fits nicely. The Wide does run a bit long, though. I needed to go down a size from what Shimano's sizing chart recommended to get a good fit. Other than that, these have been great so far. I really like having only the one Boa, and my foot feels nice and secure in the shoe.
These are great shoes, but the "wide" version is not wide enough (at least not in the right places) for me. I picked up the wide model to replace my old regular width RX-8's and hopefully get a little more room in the toe box, but there is actually less room than in my regular model. It seems like all the width is added around the midfoot and heel, where I don't need or want it. It could be that I've just broken in the old ones, but I'm not willing to put up with pinched toes to find out so I guess I'll stick with the old ones for now. Four stars because this is an incredible shoe if it works for you - they're super stiff and lighter than my road shoes - but maybe steer away if you need extra toe room.
These are great shoes - the fit and finish are what you'd expect from Shimano. I got them in a wide version and they fit very well, could be a little wider imo but as far as cycling shoes go, these are a good option if you've got wide feet. Solid sole and the BOA closure works as it should - secure closure across the entire shoe. I really like the material used for the upper - easy to clean.
Got these because I like my other Shimano road shoes. However, the regular size width was too narrow in toe box. Tried the wide shoe and they fit well. Don't know about durability, yet, but the fit is spot on (in wide model).
