Race-Ready Cross Boss & XC Power Platform
Shimano's SH-XC702 Wide MTB shoe is a race-ready CX or XC race shoe that's geared up with all of the performance features you could want or need. The carbon-reinforced midsole places the XC702 near the top of Shimano's stiffness hierarchy. This lands the XC702 firmly into race-ready territory, with highly efficient power transfer and just a hint of forgiveness for increased utility when running over barriers or climbing steep embankments.
Though it's not as stiff as the S-Phyre, the XC702 does feature a more robust complement of lugs, so it's better suited for navigating sloppy run-ups or trails on foot. The rubberized outsole also includes toe spike mounts for muddy days when not even the lugs are enough, and the compound comes from the experts at Michelin.
The upper is secured with a BOA IP1 dial and a single hook-and-loop strap over the forefoot, letting you quickly dial fit across the midfoot while leaving ample room for metatarsal expansion while mashing out of corners or jockeying for position during a bunch start.

Reviews
Double Boa makes these a really easy fit. I have very wide feet, and they're quite comfortable even after a long day in the saddle (such as the High Cascade 100). Not *quite* as rigid as my Gravel shoes, but more comfortable for walking and still stiff enough for good power transfer.
I use these cycling shoes for XC riding at the local state park and they are light stiff and wide enough to be comfortable on my extra wide feet. They tighten perfectly when I want to power down and can be loosened when I need to relax more. Perfect. This is the third pair of these shoes in this series I have purchased over about 9 years and they never disappoint or fail. The only issue has been a Boa wire breakage and Boa came through with replacement parts quickly. As I stated - What's not to love?! And, they were on sale! RCBird.
This is my second purchase of this model and this model is again excellent, only better. Dual BOAs guarantee a great fit - again -but this update looks awesome. Not that the basic black of the original wasn't sharp, but . . .
Developed a bunion after using my $300 Fizik Vento Overcurve shoes that I loved. These were much cheaper, and fit me perfectly. I got the wide version because of the bunion, and I have ridden about 1000 miles on them now, no problems !
