Rip More Gravel, Spend Less Cash
Introducing the Continental Terra Trail Performance 700c Gravel Tire. While Conti sells top-tier, race-ready tires, they also produce a lower-tier performance line for riders who are not relying on their rubber to reach the podium.
Unlike many of its similarly-priced competitors, the Terra Trail comes tubeless-ready, meaning you can run those grippy lower pressures without fear of a pinch flat. The tubeless setup also wards off any small punctures with the clotting sealant that is added to the inside of the tire.
Along with the tubeless puncture protection, the Performance line comes with Conti's proprietary Shieldwall system, which prevents sidewall slashes and other punctures from breaking into the tire casing. For a budget-level puncture protection system, Shieldwall works extremely well, providing confidence and reliability.
One of the main reasons why Conti is one of the leaders in the bicycle tire industry is due to their excellent rubber compounds. They use PureGrip in the Terra Trails, which was developed for high mileage, puncture resistance, and grip. The PureGrip rubber offers outstanding grip and higher-level speed properties than its competitors.

Reviews
I bought these on sale for $35 each. I figured what could go wrong, they're Continentals. When I received them I noted they were made in China instead of Germany which will foreshadow the manufacturing defect that would kill the tire.
I forgave the tires high rolling resistance and stiffness(32mm GP5000s ride smoother in the rough) assuming it was a durable tire but within a month, the bead failed despite no outside damage and never running them beyond 60psi.
Fortunately I caught this before it resulted in a tire rupture. You might not be so lucky. Don't buy this junk.
We ride a lot of gravel/road rides on US Forest Service roads. Surface varies from smooth dirt to chunky gravel to steep climbs on loose dirt mixed with stones. These tires seem to handle those conditions well and ride just fine on the road too. I'm around 160 pounds and run them at 40 PSI. Had a pair before in black on my old bike and tossed these gum walls on my new Specialized Diverge. I'm happy.
Only around 100 miles on these so far, but has been a mix of pavement, dirt, and gravel. Rolls pretty well on all 3, doesn't feel sluggish, and haven't had any grip issues to make me lose confidence. Wasn't the hardest tire to mount tubeless that I've used but also not the easiest, at least not initially. First time, had to use both the soapy water and tire lever trick, since I don't have an air compressor. But after riding a few miles to test them out I noticed there was a direction arrow on the tires and I had mounted the front tire the wrong way. Nothing on the tread makes these look direction specific, but I went ahead and pulled it it off to mount it correctly. I noticed that the tire had stretched out a bit, and remounting was a piece of cake. No soap or other tricks needed, just used my track pump and heard the beads snap on at around 40 psi. These show a max psi of over 70, I've tried them between 30-50 and they've been fine. I weigh around 215 lbs so I prefer a little more pressure but 40-45 feels good for me.
This is a very good tire.It is very fast and quiet on pavement. It is a tire that has great traction for climbing and braking as well. It does wear out fairly fast, but it is very fun almost bald.In the dirt it works great if you like a small 35m tires. I do and I will buy them again.
I think these were my first Continental gravel tires. I bought two of these and immediately mounted them tubeless, one is fine, the other has a bulge or "warp" in one spot, about 8" long. No amount of inflating/deflating seems to want to cure this, I tried soapy water, etc, I don't think it's the mount. And I don't think I caused it when I mounted it.
Other than that, the tire is decent, especially for the money. Next time I'll keep the packaging and return it if this happens. Back to Maxxis tires I guess, never had any problems with those. I haven't bothered contacting Bike Tires Direct for any sort of compensation. I really have had GREAT experiences with them and I figure I just got a bad one this time.
I got this tire to use in the winter in New Jersey, kind of like a snow tire for a car.
It's doing great in a combination of wet gravel, wet dirt and wet asphalt.
I use the tire with a tube and it's easy to get on and off the wheel. Off the wheel the tire has a sturdy feel to it and while I only have a couple hundred miles on it and can't yet vouch for its long term puncture resistance, I mentally feel confident that I'm not going to be out in the cold fixing a flat. To paraphrase Yogi Berra Bicycling is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical.
This tire is exactly what I want/ need to get through crazy fluctuations in New Jersey weather and at a reasonable price.
Great tires at a great price. Spoke with an associate at BikeTiresDirect and after telling him my about my riding habits he suggested the Continental Terra Trail tire and I went with it. Great choice. Good price and quick shipping.
I'VE been running the continental SPEED KING gravel tires ( Great Tire by the way ). Well with the move into a New location I need a set of more Aggressive off-road tires & the Terra trail tire is it ! They deliver Great Performance be at dirt, mud, hard-pack or pavement put these babies to the test in the last week riding close to 200 miles in a combination of road and lots of off-road riding
This tire does well on easier fast single track and rougher gravel. Solid traction. A little sluggish on the road compared to other gravel tires I've used on this bike(Gravel King SK & SS, American Classic Uden) but that is to be expected with this tread.
I've had them for a little over a month and I expect they'll last a little longer than Gravel Kings.
This tire rolls well on pavement and still has great off road traction. The tires that came with my bike were wider but did not grip as well as these do. I have used these to commute on pavement as well as dirt roads and single track. This is my second pair and would highly recommend them.
