Reviews
So this is the 2nd convertible helmet from Bell I've owned, the 5th I've tried. I tried Leatt 3.0 Enduro Medium and Large; owned Bell SuperAir-R (XL - as per the mfg size guide); tried the SuperAir-R Large. Here is the skinny for, well skinny heads. - Seems like my head is more oval shaped so the SuperAir-R was a difficult fit - Large seemed too small and the XL was pretty floppy even tightened down all the way. Leatt Enduro Large was really really big and the Medium was just too tight. Enter the Super DH, yes it is a bit heavier and warmer than the others but it carries with that weight the confidence of the DH cert with the removable chin-bar. Fit system is awesome and the Size was perfect for that in-between oval head. (now I have to figure out what to do with my slightly used Super Air-R in XL)
I purchased this helmet on sale, about $90 off, and it is a great deal in my opinion. The helmet is lightweight and offers some good adjustability with additional padding with a quick release chin strap. I have not tried the detachable chin bar yet, but it seems easy to remove and a good option if you don't want the full-face coverage during less dangerous rides.
It's not cheap, but for a comfortable trail helmet AND a park/DH worthy helmet it's a good deal. I have one and so do both my kids that ride daily. Usually we all leave the chin bar off when it's warm out but the option to throw it on is nice when attempting a tricky line or hitting a feature for the first time and they need a little confidence boost.
This helmet is very comfortable on my head, and gets lots of air flow. And the full face part makes me feel a lot more confident on the downhill.
I havent had the helmet for very long, but I detach and attach the chin guard regularly. So my only concern is how long the clamps will last as they seem to snap in and out pretty hard. But it does feel like its built tough, so I highly recommend it.
I've been eyeing this helmet for a while, I do a lot of climbing but really enjoy technical rocky DH on the return. The removable chin bar is a great concept and pretty well executed here, it is clunky and not very efficient to remove or re-install (the 3 levers are hard to open close - it just doesn't have a nice method). That is really the only negative, other than the MSRP.
I was worried that it would be hot - I had the original Bell Super and it was poorly ventilated. This helmet is leagues better and surprisingly the best-ventilated helmet I've had.
The fit is good, adjustments for fit are easy to access. The rotational MIPS is a great advancement in this technology as well.
Very satisfied.
Helmets are expensive, its great paying for a 2-1. Looks great without the chin bar and is perfect for the bike park. Great ventilation and the magnetic strap is simple and secure.
