Lights
Bicycle lights are a critical safety item for both night-time and day-time riding. Most lights now use rechargeable batteries and LED lighting technology, so they can provide high brightness, last for many hours, and don't require disposable batteries. A "blinky" tail light that mounts on the seatpost, saddle bag, or seatstay, is an essential accessory for safety-conscious cyclists whether riding in the daytime or night. Headlights also help with safety, but are more commonly used for night riding conditions.
