Weather in Denver, Colorado can change pretty quickly. I used to have permanent fenders on my CX bike, but didn't need them all the time. These allow me to adjust the clearance off the wheel (higher in the winter for snow, lower for water the rest of the time). They keep me and my gear dry. Since I don't need them all the time (unlike living in Oregon), being able to take them off and put them on without tools is great!
The only draw back during the winter is the waterslush is dropped directly onto my rear brake pads (cantilevers) and the air turns the waterslush into ice. This makes braking nearly impossible as a good layer of ice builds up and all but disables the braking power for my rear wheel.
