My wife now forbids me to buy new shoes that are not Sidi

I started out with some very old Sidis off of ebay, like 9 years ago. Tried some Lakes, back to the Sidis. 2012 S-works were great, but somehow went to feeling like crap after a year and a half. I REALLY tried to make Bonts work, but just couldn't, after many sizes, many heat moldings, etc. My wife got sick of all the nonsense and I'm finally back to some real Sidi's. Immediately they just felt right. Almost a custom feel with a great solid platform. Got these on a Friday and threw them into a 4 hour road race Saturday, knowing that hey, there's now way they'll hurt as much as Bonts after 4 hours. A little noticeable at times, but really no issues. I read about the toe flex and was initially turned off (paranoia of power loss), but I think it really feels great, and have put out my best numbers AFTER the switch to these shoes. Something about the 0 flex of Bonts leads to horrible pain and cramping after a couple hours for me. The ventilation is great too, I'd get this model over the wires based on the mesh bits on top of the toe which really let a lot of air in, combined with the sole vents. The vernice finish also looks awesome. Finally nice to have a pair of maintenance free shoes I know will last a very long time.

Thank you for your feedback.

SIDI ups the bar for the Genius series

I've ridden Sidi Genius shoes for years, since the Genius 3 days. My old pair of Genius 5 needed replacing so I got the 6.6 carbon vent (after trying a number of other shoes). The old Genius 5 shoes seriously lacked lateral support, but the new ones are much better! That was something which bothered me a bit on occasion with the old ones.

The 6.6 are noticably ligher and very noticably stiffer. I expected a break-in period to get used to the changes but these shoes are comfortable and solid. I'd call the new shoes an improvement in nearly every way.

The heel thing really does work. I dialed it down until the contact was noticable then backed both sides off a fraction of a turn. It becomes nearly unnoticable if one isn't paying attention to the shoes but the heels are definitely more secure. I like it! My heels are a tiny bit narrower than average and this secured them nicely. There is a lot of room for adjustability so it should work for pretty nearly anyone's heels.

On sizing - I used to wear 43.5 in previous Genius versions but these shoes seem a tiny bit larger. I could probably have gone with a 43. No big deal for now as I can wear thicker wool socks for winter which wouldn't work as well with my old shoes. Note on some brands I am a 44 so it always pays to try before you buy.

My feet are a little on the narrow side, with a high arch and instep. SIDIs do fairly well for feet that are a little narrower than average.

I think the new shoes are going to prove to be slightly warmer than the old lorica silver ones I had. That's fine as it is cooling off now. I haven't been out on a really hot day with them so I could be wrong. I've also kept the vent closed...

If I had to find a minus, it is that SIDI's upper level shoes are pricy. I cringed a bit, but I'm glad I got them. They ahould serve well for the next several years.

Thank you for your feedback.

Follow-up to my 6/18/2014 review

This is a follow-up to my complaint that these shoes clicked with every pedal stroke (6/18/2014). Thomas at BTD responded saying it may be the Look Memory Eyelet Nut. I stuffed some foam in the slot to prevent it from moving and they are now silent. Funny how one can overlook the obvious. Thanks Thomas.

Great shoe!

Fit and function are excellent, I've always used SIDI's and these new shoes are just another example of the ever improving quality found with SIDI. The Heal retention system is a newer setup that works well, the closure system is a proven design and the sole is super stiff and vented. Your getting the same sole as the top of the line shoe but with (in my opinion) a better more user friendly closure system. These will also run slightly wider than the top SIDI's. Many replaceable parts in long lasting - great shoe! My last pair are 6 years old (25000 miles) and are still usable ..

Nice But Noisy

This is not my first pair of Sidi's but they are by far the noisiest. Both shoes click with each pedal stroke. I have no idea where the noise comes from but it's very annoying. Nothing I've tried eliminates the problem. Other than that, they are typical Sidi quality and style. My ratings are entirely a result of the clicking. At this price point and being Sidi I expect a noiseless shoe.

BikeTiresDirect.com Comments
Thank you for the review! The "click" that most customers experience is the Look Memory Eyelet nut on the bottom, between the sole and the cleat. It is the small nut in the center of the three cleat bolt nuts and freely moves while not in use. I have found that a 1cm x 1cm of rubber, like one from a rear light clamp or old tube, placed on top of the nut will keep the nut from moving freely and keep it quite. -Thomas

Comfortable and stylish

Sidi shoes have been fit me consistently for years. I know if I buy a size 48 it will fit and this shoe fits perfectly. I have a EE measured shoe width and the regular 6.6 has plenty of width. Unless you have a really wide foot, I would buy this shoe first before the Sidi with the extra width. I ride 2000 miles per summer in pretty hot, humid weather and look forward to the toe venting. So far spring riding has been limited so I have not experienced the toe vent but the shoes have felt great on the pedals.

Lighter, stiffer and more comfortable than the 5.5 Carbon shoe

I have had these for just over 1 month. I was using the Genius 5.5 carbon shoes before. The 6.6 are noticeably stiffer, lighter and actually more comfortable. I have been averaging 150 miles per week and have had very little discomfort on longer rides.

Awesome fit & power transfer!

These are not cheap but worth every penny. I find they fit like a glove have excellent fit adjustment features (heel, straps, ratchet, cleat placement). More importantly the stiffness of the soles is fantastic and when you need to call up power pedaling you get that umph! acceleration straight out of your legs. Very Nice indeed, now I want their triathlon shoe!

Light, beautifully made

My first new shoes in a while. They are very light. Well vented for summer use. I will be sticking to winter shoes when the temps drop.

I have a faily narrow foot and heel. I wear 9.5 US stree shoes and the 43.5s are a fairly good fit. The adjustable heel cup means no slippage. I could go a tad narrower, but might start risking hot spots.

I've ridden them in downpours. The clean up well. Water does not pool in them, but no one should assume they are in anyway waterproof. Wear booties if you want dry feet in the rain.

You get what you pay for. All fit and finishes are flawless.

Thank you for your feedback.

Genius 6.6 - Cool Feet

So far the shoes have kept my feet rather cool when riding with the vent open. My only complaint is trying to position the cleat so you don't feel it through the shoe. As advised, I also didn't use the screws that come with the SPD-SL cleat and it was hard to find screws that worked and were not too long.

Thank you for your feedback.

Great shoe, get Sidis and get the best.

This is my second pair of Sidis. My first pair lasted over a decade. Being able to find and replace parts makes them last nearly forever. My first pair I still use in the winter. I switched to a different brand last pair of shoes, regretted it and swore I would go back to Sidi and not change again. They are simple the best. Like the neutral black and white of this years 6.6. The color goes with any kit you wear. Expensive but worth it.
