Updating my previous review. The bike is completely built up and I've ridden it quite a bit now. I'm a mountain biker first and usually only ride my drop bar bikes occasionally like when the trails need a break from the rain. But this bike makes me want to ride it even on good trail days! I also happen to ride the Search almost exclusively on dirt with just enough pavement to make bigger and more interesting loops.
What I love about this bike fast, stable, balanced, perfect sizing for me, fits fat tires (I have 650 x 47 WTB Byways on it) great on technical trails as well as fast enough on pavement
I am coming off a Black Mountain Cycles Monster Cross that served a similar purpose, but was a little too small for me. That bike may have been a little more compliant, but the Norco isn't bad. I also had Salsa Cowchippers on the Black Mtn and went with Cowbells on the Norco. I think the Chippers might be better (more comfortable and more control) for how and where I ride.
All in, great frameset. The complete looks like a good value as well.

I'm in the process of building a bike based off this frameset so no ride report yet. However, it's gone together smoothly. One minor hiccup was the top cup of the headset was missing. My local Norco dealer sorted it out very quickly though. This is my second Norco and the customer service from them has been spot on!

Unlike many riders, I prefer steel to carbon fiber. More so, the style of riding I do is much more amenable to steel. So far I've put the bike through the ringer, riding Phil's Trails, Cascade Lakes HWY, and misc unmarked trails. This is by far the best bike I have ever owned.
