I recommend it!

This is now my second GPS cycling device, the first being the Garmin 1000, so that is all I can compare it to. After 6 years of good service, the 1000 was getting short on battery life, and the onoff button cover failed. I really like the 1030. It has more features, better displays, and MUCH better battery life. It integrates well with my Android phone, and Shimano D-Fly. Don't leave home without it!

Thank you for your feedback.

Great GPS and route finder. Big improvement over previous model

I broke my Garmin Edge 1000 last year so bought this as a replacement. The 1030 one is a big improvement. The awkward charging of the 1000 is improved, the connectivity is better, the menu is more user-friendly. I ride with this constantly to follow routes and use its data.

Great cycling computer with only one flaw

A great computer which is easy to read and the screen information can be modified to the data the user wants. Easy to pair with the Garmin Varia UT800. Great feature how the light can be controlled by the unit. As well pairing a Polar chest belt HR monitor was easy and as a matter of fact works better than the Garmin HR strap. I have not needed to use the GPS maps but that seems fairly straightforward as well. All in all a great piece of technology except for one item which lowers the score to 4 vs 5 stars. If you are an I Phone user the Bluetooth pairing is sketchy. Easy to pair once you know what needs to be done but it drops the pairing and I find myself pairing it again. To Garmin credit they are aware of this issue and are very cooperative with support. The situation has markedly improved but it is still far from perfect.

Thank you for your feedback.

Mixed Bag

With Garmin, it always seems to be a mixed bag. The display on this unit is fantastic. Large and high resolution. The rattling button design of the Edge 1000 seems to be better. The MicroUSB door design is a more firm plastic rather than the flexible rubber ones of the past that were difficult to reseat.

The button location is moronic - they are on the end of the unit that faces you and if you use Garmin's own mount you cannot easily press them. I have to contort a finger to get it between the unit and my handlebars, and then feel around. If the button were a contrasting color I could locate it more easily. Or how about putting those buttons on the side of the unit? Did they even test that feature.

The user interface is the same old Garmin. Using Magenta as the route color which is harder to see with sunglasses that block the blue part of the spectrum. You can change the route color BUT you cannot navigate with that other color - why?

GPS consistency is no better with this unit either. Everything is the same.

Grade reads in integers with no decimal places like the Edge 1000 does.

Screen sensitivity is very good and field layout are great. Readability of the display is awesome. The one things I have not tested yet is the battery life. I am going to take a long trip over Memorial Day and will see if this unit makes it past the 10 hour life that the Edge 1000 had. One issue here is that that Micro USB connector is on the end of the until with the buttons, and like the buttons this is problematic for charging while on the go. The Edge 1000 had its port on the bo9ttom so any cable could be connected. For this one, to charge the unit while mounted you HAVE to buy a 90 degree cable. I am sure they do not provide that because they would prefer you buy their external battery that mounts on the bottom of their mount. Very cool idea but at 4-5 times more expensive than an external battery, it is not worth it IMO. Any bike you are going to ride for 15-20 hours or more, is most likely going to have some kind of bag mounted on the top tube or bars to hold a battery.

I really do like this unit, but like all past Garmin GPS units, they do not seem to test their products with real users so they end up with a product that you smile when you uncover features that just work. Instead you curse the designer who put those buttons and USB port on the end of the uniit to make them very hard to use.

Sadly with all of the negatives this is probably the best unit out there if the price works for you. BTD however is the bomb to order from.

Best cyclocomputer so far!

Easy to setup and use. Integrates easily with Varia radar rear light. Beeps and shows red lines on the sides of the screen when a car is 400 yards behind you. Love it!

Long Time Garmin user

Have used 520 and 820. 520 was favorite until this new model. Syncs great with iPhone, Strava. Easier to see. Looking forward to using mapping features this summer.

It will do it

Upgraded from an Edge 500. Start up and satellite acquisition is MUCH faster. Like my smartphone, this device can do more than I can ask it to do. I like the different profiles. I can have different screens for a road ride or a gravel ride or my commute. It's an investment for sure, but if you want the top of the line, you need to pay for it.

Larger Display Better Battery Life

I am an endurance rider-10-14 hours. Longer battery life ensures I can track my entire ride. The larger display with my aging eyes is appreciated. Tracking unfamiliar routes is a great feature.

Great device for navigation and training

This is my third Garmin Edge and the best one yet. The navigation features are basically the same as my Garmin Edge 800 and 810. However, the Garmin Edge 1030 offered enhanced training and safety features over the previous models. For example, this model has incident detection. The sensors within the device, along with any other paired sensors such as a speed or cadence sensor, are used to determine if there has been an impact. If an impact is detected, my Garmin will use my mobile phone to send a message within 30 seconds to my emergency contact with my last known location.

In addition, the Garmin Edge 1030 also allows me to set an alarm at the completion of set number of miles and time. I use this mileage alarm as a reminder to take a drink and the timer alarm to remind me to eat while Im riding.

This bicycle computer is much more than a device used for navigation and to gather useful ride statistics.

Thank you for your feedback.

All you need to collect data

If you learn and use all the options, this Garmin is well worth the $$. Just using the data fields alone, not to mention the weather data, the averages for your heart, speed, laps and more. Then down loading the data to your computer-wirelessly, thats info to browse while you recover andor watch tv. Being able to review your power usage over the course of your ride lets you evaluate your laps for speed and cadence. This info is useful for pedal strength and efficiency. I also have my Varia Radar linked which I use on every ride. My wingman has the 1030 too, so we use the Group Track to meet up on a ride. The Garmin 1030 has enhanced my riding all around. Glad I bought it, I think youll be glad too. Ride safe.

Great Producr

I had the Edge 1000. This has a larger clearer display and works must faster. I have Shimano Di2 and Garmin Varia system works perfectly. Collision detection is a plus.

A must have for endurance cyclest

I purchased this for the 2018 double century season. In the past, I've carried a spare battery and charged my Edge 1000 in my pocket during my ride. With the extra battery, this no longer is a hassle. The maps and guidance feel a lot better also. This is a must if you ever want a worse free long ride. We all know if it's not on Strava it didn't happen!

Another great Garmin product

Purchased this mainly to take advantage of the long battery life. I have had other Garmin products and been happy with them. I recently rode Land Run, finished in a little over 8 hours, and only used %40 battery. A larger screen is nice but the basic features are not that much different from the 1000 version. If you are like me and need the long battery life ( I also have the battery adaptor but haven't used it yet), then this is for you.

Thank you for your feedback.
