Got this mirror because the one I had that was similar had gotten scratched. I was a bit concerned because I could not get the piece fully into the bar end probably due to the thickness of the bar tape. Installed as far as I could and gave it a test before trying my plan 'B'. Mirror is solid and stays in place. Bumps that caused my old mirror to move do not affect this mirror. This is on a road bike. Now I will never know if my plan 'B' would have worked:)
I have had a number of mirrors over many years. They have all had some flaws, and many of them only lasted one or two seasons.
I spotted these on biketiresdirect last year and bought one for my main ride. After six months I bought them for my other bikes.
They are rock solid, NOT glass but polished metal reflector, and very easy to fine-adjust while riding. The only negative aspect that I have found is that they are a bit difficult to remove from the handlebars without breaking them (I changed handlebars on one bike and figured this out), but have found that with gentle rocking and outward tension, they will slide out easily and be ready for re-installation.
Ok, Ive resisted any type of mirror, though constantly being nagged by fellow riders. I never liked the looks of the helmet thingie. A friend (yes another old guy) turned me on to the Spintech Dropbar Mirror & wow, instantly easy to use & effective. I recommend giving it a try. Safety First, right!
I tried to use on my Bike. Had to destroy the end of my ergonomis handlebar grip to get the plug in. Couldn' t see cars coming from the rear despite repeated readjustment. Next the rubber insert tore on one side so the mirror flops. Now have ro replace my handlebar grip and still jo mirror. These were recommended I do notknow why.
This is by far the best mirror out there. I have had no issues and have over 6000 miles of use. I use this with my Garmin Varia and I have never felt so in tune with my surroundings. Highly recommended!!!!
I have had two of these mirrors and they both lasted about four rides each (35 x 4 miles on paved roads with few bumps). I like the viewing and wish I could get them to work beyond the four rides each.
It took years to set aside my ego and start riding with a mirror. I have one of these on each of my 3 bikes and have been using them for about 5 years now. They easily detach and it's only when I head out with-out a mirror that I realize how much I use it.
The design is great, it is small enough to not be totally noticeable but big enough that a quick glance will tell me if I have traffic approaching.
I have been cycling for over 15 years. I guess I forgot why I do not like mirrors when I bought this. For me I think it is best that I put all my effort in looking behind me. I was on a century ride when I glanced over my shoulder and looked pretty hard in the mirror and pulled in front of a pickup truck. Thank God they were watching me and did not hit me. It was during the day but if car has lights on they are easy to see other wise it is a crap shoot. I will just take the extra seconds to really really look instead of using any mirror.
You are not that 'PRO' to be seen using one of these. Vision is great if YOUR vision is good, don't blame it on the convex shape. This mirror has saved me from many close calls. My first set of these had a better mirror, I purchased them in Germany. You can use the right drop mirror on your left drop with zero problems(for US roads)- I've done this with my winter bike.
This might be plastic but it still does a good job. Just be careful and don't use a paper towel when cleaning this, Use a soft rag. I like knowing what is coming up from my rear when riding on the road.
Got them, extremely easy to install and they are great!!! I love the fact that I can see behind me and I don't have to have a helmet mirror or anything like that!
I will recommend this item to anyone!!
This mirror works great on my commuter and road bikes, its always there when I need it and very easy to unjust on the fly although stays put very well.
Best feature you have full view when in the drops. Your hand does not block out the traffic behind you (especially important while descending in my view). Adjustable is good.
Room for improvement? Glass would better than plastic. Over a short period of time fine lines appear on surface from cleaning lightly with soft rag/glass cleaner to remove smudges.
