Safe & Secure Roof, Trunk, or Hatch Bike Rack
The SeaSucker Talon Bike Rack uses incredibly strong vacuum pads for attachment, which temporarily mounts a single bike to the roof of your car without the hassle of permanently installing hardware. This easy-to-use 1-bike rack attaches to your rooftop, trunk, or can be used as a hatchback bike rack.
The SeaSucker Talon is perfect for travelers who may need to fit a bike rack into a suitcase. Reviews
This is a genius product for anyone without a rear hitch or roof rack who wants to mount their carbon bike on a car without clamping the frame. Great option if you regularly rent a car or borrow a friend's car.
A few minor caveats:
1. You will be completely anxious the first few times you use it
2. There's no security, so if you park your car somewhere, you'll want to lock up the bike separately
3. THIS DOES NOT WORK OUT OF THE BOX. You need to order plugs that make it fit with your QR skewer or thru-axle. It won't work without these. And BTD doesn't sell them, so you have to buy them from another store
Bought this to supplement my hitch rack for use on a different car (one without a hitch). I was understandably nervous to mount my bike with suction cups, but it installed quickly and easily and performed flawlessly on my first trip (600 miles round trip). Pretty awesome that you can remove and store the rack in small box when not using, and the reinstallation is so easy I can just pop it on top of whatever car we're taking.
My one gripe is that the basic rack is set up only for forks with quick release, not through axle. To accommodate through axles, you have to buy special inserts for another $20. And, they don't make it super easy to figure out what you need to make through axles work. I bought a through axle adapter, which turned out to be for the front wheel (if I had purchased the front wheel mount). What I needed was a Huske plug (whatever that is), and it had to be sized correctly for my axle. Now that I have the plugs, good to go!
Great bike rack. Easy to install. Don't have to worry about attaching to rain gutters or roof racks. Easy to remove as well. You just need to do a bit of eyeballing to get the placement of the suction cups correct. You do need to pay attention to suction pump indicators. Over time the suction cups will lose some suction and need to be pumped up. Other than that, if you're not racing every weekend and like to go to the car wash, this rack is for you.
I've had one of the Talon's for a little over a year. I keep mine in my trunk, I've had to go rescue riding buddies and this rack is super convenient for stuff like that. It mounts very easily, the cups have a little pump on them. Sometimes you have to push down a little to get the suction started, a little squirt of water from your water bottle helps too. I've used it to get to a ride that I want to do. Very easy to remove and lock in the car. I seriously can't believe how convenient this rack is. These are the same cups that glazers use to install glass, they hold very well.
I really recommend it to those people who have compact cars, I have traveled a few times at a speed of 80 miles per hour and I have not had any problems, it is even faster to install than the racks that go in the trunk. My car is a Hyundai Veloster and this rack works very well.
Have been looking at this rack for a while. Saw it come up on BTD and on a sale price it was too good to pass up. Sturdy yet light rack. Handy for many situations. Excellent shopping and shipping by BTD as always.
