The Perfect Mountain Bike Pedal
LOOK's X-Track Race may just be the world's most perfect mountain bike pedal.
A clipless MTB pedal must respond to a multitude of different situations. External conditions may vary considerably and interfere with pedal operation. It is not enough to make a product that is excellent in one specific area. Instead, it is necessary to design it to be as versatile as possible to provide its user with a real advantage regardless of any external obstacles encountered. Following this logic, LOOK has chosen to concentrate on the interaction of three major factors, contact surface, weight and entry/release, to develop the perfect mountain bike pedal.
Lateral contact support guides your foot in finding your pedal and provides a stable point of contact even if you have not yet engaged the cleat. This wide contact area prevents your foot from sliding on the pedal body and offers consistent and reassuring support.
The mechanism works regardless of external conditions (in the mud, forces are significantly different from those encountered when dry), more space allows for the shedding of mud, sand, and grit. These zones give the user a constant and stable feeling of being securely clipped in, regardless of conditions.

Reviews
Easy to lock in when starting, easy to unlock when stopping. Stay locked in when riding. On my last ride, I forgot to switch out my Shimano cleats for the Look cleats. No worries. They worked flawlessly. I use these on my training road bike. No clopping around the house before and after rides.
This is my 2nd pair for a new gravel bike and they are working out just as well as the first pair. They feel more stable than the equivalent Shimano MTB. My only complaint about both of my sets is that after install I've had to loosen/adjust them to what I guess is the least tight setting, otherwise I have a struggle getting out of the cleats quickly when I need too, which is especially important on trails and gravel roads with the new gravel bike. But at the least-tight setting I can get out when I need to and yet they don't then release when I don't want them to when cranking up steep hills or whatever.
That was the reaction of my LBS. Affordable, reasonable footprint surface for potentially non-cleated shoes used with my gravel bike to which they're paired. Like the dark color (hopefully it lasts).
