Reviews
I have used the 3.2mm tape on my bicycles for a number of years. It provides good comfort and grip. I've not had a problem. with wear or tearing. Previously, I had double taped my road handlebars, and the 3.2mm offers more comfort.
I've down rated this last purchase as the extra section provided to cover the back of the bars at the brake hoods didn't stick. Holding that piece and wrapping at the hoods was a (slow) exercise in dexterity.
This tape is expensive but worth the price to me. That could be 5 stars or 4 stars in value depending on your outlook.
Purchased the Lizard Skin DSP handlebar tape and love it for it cushioned grip but mainly for the grip I get on the handlebars. It's not the cheapest option, but I feel the value received is well worth the cost. Love it.
The Phil waterproof grease is my top choice for waterproof grease. I built up a new bike and refused to start the build until this grease arrived. I have used it for over 30 years, and I think it is great stuff!
Easy to install, with all the extra bits you need for around the hoods, and to finish up the wrap. The tape itself is nice and cushy, with a good grip - not too sticky, but not too slippery either. Works well in the cold, heat, dry, wet, and on the trainer, and with or without gloves (basically any combination of those). I'm pretty happy with it.
This is absolutely the best bar tape I have ever used. The comfort and grip is as good as claimed, but what blows me away is the durability. I put over 5000 miles on the first set of tape. Im up to 3000 miles on the second set and it shows virtually no sign of wearing out. Sure it might cost twice as much but if it lasts 2-3x as long it represents great value. This is the only tape Ill use from now on.
The most expensive tape on the market and definitely not better. It looks all pretty when you put it on and feels great but DOES NOT LAST! Even when applied properly ... LS is very specific to not stretch the tape when you apply it because then they have an excuse for their crappy workmanship.
In about 10 rides, the outer layer started peeling off and continued to do so until I couldnt stand it anymore and took it off. No other tape I have used (and I have used a lot of others) does this. DO NOT BUY unless you just like to spend 40 bucks and re wrap your bar tape every other month.
Usually you spend more money to get a better product but this stuff is nothing but expensive JUNK!
We need a zero star rating option 1 star is too much! It amazes me that there are any high ratings on here. They must have either rated it right after they put it on or they just never ride their bikes so it hasnt worn out yet sitting in the garage... lol )
This stuff is expensive. Too expensive for what it delivers. On the plus side it's easy to wrap and will stretch a little to cover the bends and it is easy on the hands. On the con side the stuff doesn't last. In no time, with normal use the outer layer of the tape starts decomposing. I've wrapped 2 bikes twice with it but never again. Avoid at all costs.
I ride long distances (70-100 miles) a ride. The extra cushion really feels good from the beginning to the end of the ride. I've used Lizard Skins bar tape for 3 or 4 years on multiple bikes. It's lasted really well for me. Great product.
First bar tape I ever put on by myself. It was really thick but I got the hang of it fairly quickly.
I love this tape! It is absorbent to poor road conditions ( I live in the country) and it is so easy to grip!
My hands and wrists were so much happier after a 30 mile bike ride...what a difference!
I also appreciate the bright color. I ordered bright blue and loved it. So I ordered Bright green for my other bike!
This tape is well worth the money.
I have problems with my left hand going to sleep. This tape goes a long way towards solving that, especially on those lonely chip-n-seal roads in rural California. In addition it has just the right amount of grip and is very easy to keep clean.
I ride mostly long distance and comfortable hands is important. Numbness is never fun and long term it can be dangerous to your health. This bar tape is a thicker than most people are used to but after you get used to it you won't want to go back. This stuff is cushy and keeps it's cushiness for a long time. I've had one set of this on my road bike for over a year and the only issue I had was it unraveling from one section. That mostly has to do with installation technique. I would recommend for those that want extra padding on the top of the bars or where ever they place their hands most to take some of the extra length that Lizard Skins provides and place it under the bar tape that you will wrap around the bars for even more padding. This bar tape also in my opinion handles wet conditions well and doesn't get slippery when extremely wet. It seems to retain some grip even when hands are sweaty or gloves are wet. I would recommend this bar tape and consistently do for people that ask.
I recently got a box of this tape and when I peeled the paper off the adhesive, the adhesive came off with the paper. Ugh! I wrapped anyway, and contacted Lizard Skins who sent a replacement box. Well, it wasn't needed as the tape has held fast and not moved around at all. I totally love this tape. I ride bare handed now frequently where I've never done that in the past. The feel is grippy without being sticky, nicely plush, and it looks good too. So hats off to Lizard Skins for awesome customer service and for making a great tape. I've tried many over 30 years cycling, and this stuff is terrific. I put it on my wife's bike and she loves it too. Buy this tape, and thank me later!
I put this fat tape on my cross bike to help absorb some shock. It's super easy to wrap (once you get used to the thickness), looks great, and feels even better. Love Lizard Skins!
