Description

Performance Cycling Saddle With Revolutionary 3D Printed Padding

The Fizik Antares Versus Evo R1 Adaptive Saddle is a 3D printed bike saddle with a carbon-reinforced nylon shell and a highly stiff carbon rail (R1) that offers seamlessly engineered zonal cushioning.

A 3D Printed Padding

The evolution of digital 3D printing allowed fizik to develop a new saddle without the constraints or limitations imposed by traditional production methods and materials.

The Adaptive saddle padding is crafted by carbon using its revolutionary Digital Light Synthesis technology. DLS is an additive manufacturing process that uses digital ultraviolet light projection, oxygen-permeable optics, and programmable liquid resins to produce parts with excellent mechanical properties, resolution, and surface finish.

Tailored Zonal Cushioning

Using carbon technology, biomechanists and engineers have achieved an unprecedented possibility: to design and manufacture multiple functional zones within the saddle, tuning each of them separately for specific mechanical properties. Each of these key functional zones is engineered with a distinctive cushioning and mechanical response, joined together progressively and seamlessly in the same padding.

Lab Tested, Road Proven

Professional cyclists and amateur riders were tested in both the fizik labs and on the road. During each development phase, every iteration was carefully tested. A great focus has been put on understanding how the pressure patterns change according to different bike geometries, riding positions, and riding styles.

From Idea To Scalable Production

Thanks to this one-of-its-kind combination of process and material, fizik has been given the chance to develop a product five times faster, creating and field-testing hundreds of iterations. Being applicable to mass production, this technology completely remaps the traditional manufacturing process, accelerating and leaping over all intermediate phases.

Long-Lasting Performance

The saddle is very easy to clean. Even with the filthiest road muck, all you need to do is simply hose it over with water. Whatever gets in, gets out. fizik has put it through the most severe tests, simulating accelerated weathering, UV aging, and wear resistance by following strict protocols.

Features:

  • Adaptive: Carbon® Digital Light Synthesis™ 3D printing technology, offering seamlessly engineered zonal cushioning
  • Versus Evo: Engineered with a degree of flexibilty and a full channel design for pressure relief on soft tissue area
  • R1: A combination of a ride compliant carbon reinforced nylon shell and a highly stiff carbon rail
  • Concepts: this is a product of the fizik Concepts programme, a cross-disciplinary collaboration of leading industry experts and academics carrying out research and analysis on technology, design, physiology and bikefitting in search of ways to improve cycling performance.

Comfortable yet Not Durable

I purchased this saddle as part of a new bike build. I was hesitant at first but jumped in. Completely different than the Brooks saddles that I've had on my bikes for the past 25+ years. After a few rides I was converted to this saddle. I still have the Brooks on my other bike; however, I really have come to enjoy this saddle on both daily and long-distance rides. And great on hot days. However, after 24 months of use, the nose broke. Weird, since I don't "sit on the rivet" very often. Looking under the saddle reveals the need for a bit of engineering work to reinforce the nose. All-in-all, an excellent saddle with the qualification that it may not be right for everyone's anatomy.

Fizik fan - not disappointed

I bought this in the throes of winter training for an upcoming Gran Fondo and my trusty Fizik Antares R1, was just feeling a little too stiff anymore. While it may be ok on the road, it is several years old and decided it was time for an update. I generally wait a version or two before jumping into a new product. Knowing Fizik, I thought it would be worth the risk. There is a little break in time required but not much. Makes my 4+ hour endurance trainer sessions more tolerable. Initially, it is a bit tacky feeling and you cannot slide on it like a traditional saddle - a little frustrating. After a couple months of use, it is burnishing a bit, so smoother and more ability to shift weight as needed.

Cannot wait to get out on the road with this.

Amazingly comfortable seat

It took awhile (6 months) to get this seat due to back order but given the times I’ll give them a pass. Only mention it so buyers are aware, not BTD fault..

The seat quite frankly is well worth the wait. Well built and very high quality. The 3D print is flawless. Immediately comfortable, so much so I forgot all about it, as it should be.

I’ve ridden on it 150-200 miles per week for a couple of months and still love it. No flat spots or compression issues at all, it gives in the right spots and is firm where it needs to be. I find myself shifting fore and aft a lot less and remain in a comfortable “sweet spot” more.

The carbon rails were a bit “creaky” for about a week, then settled in and are quiet now. (definitely use a torque wrench for your installation)

This seat is expensive so I highly recommend BTD for best cost, LOL I used my points that I’ve been hoarding to lessen the pain of purchase. Nonetheless nothing on the bike can improve your comfort like a good seat so for me it was worth it!

Not suitable for use on bicycle.

I broke two of these saddles on two consecutive early season rides in precisely the same way. Both times the saddles were on my gravel bike, and temperatures were just above freezing. Both times the plastic shell cracked about 1.5" behind the nose of the saddle while riding uphill on a relatively smooth dirt road. Both saddles were less than a season old. There is clearly a problem with these saddles.

Super comfortable

Ive owned about 4 Antares saddles over the years. Ive had them on my different bikes because of how well they work for me. This one is even better. Ill have to order a second one for my other bike.

Tech forward and light

Different zones of pressure work well and definitely tech that I can see becoming the normal for high end saddles in a few years.
